Canberra Dance News (CDN) is a free, no obligation, e-mail news
service. The aim of Canberra Dance News is to encourage participation
in bush dancing and other related dance styles.
Canberra Dance News is entirely non-commercial, produced at the
editors' own cost to promote non-profit events and to inform those
interested in dancing.
The deadline for contributions is the second-last Saturday of the
month, and CDN will go out around Wednesday of the following week.
Please notify the list of any changes or corrections to items. We
will forward cancellations and changes to venue or time etc as they
are received, for events that are before the next issue.
If we don't announce otherwise, you should hear from us every month.
If not, it will probably be because your email address failed -
please email us so we can welcome you back to the list.
We don't keep anything apart from 'Regular Event' and 'Diary'
listings; we forward items as we receive them, and if we get
enquiries back we forward them to the source of the item.
Reciprocal Arrangements
If you run events that would be of interest to readers then we are
happy to enter into a reciprocal publicity arrangement. Canberra
Dance News goes to a list that is continually changing but generally
contains over 500 addresses.
If you place the following ad in your emails (if any) and your web
site (if any), either as it is or marked "advertisement" or "Links"
or whatever, then we will publish your news items to the Canberra
Dance News list.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Canberra Dance News: For free email news about bush dancing and
related dance activities please email dance@pcug.org.au or see http://dance.pcug.org.au
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you cannot reciprocate because you don't have a web site and don't
send out emails, we will still publish your news items on events that
are of interest to Canberra Dance News readers.
News Items
News items need to be ready for publication (ie succinct, no more
than half a page) and should generally include Date, Event Name,
Venue, Time and contact details for further information. The source
email address will be published.
News items should be sent to dance@pcug.org.au as plain text in the
body of an email and marked something like "please forward to the
list".
If you need pictures etc, you could consider putting up a web page
and including the web address in your news item. Note though that
many readers have email but not web access (due to workplace policies
etc) so the essential details should still be in the email. Many
readers can't, won't or don't open attachments either, and we never
forward them. We don't open attachments, due to the virus nuisance,
so please send plain text in the body of your email.
You may want to email advance notice as soon as you decide on an
event, and then a notice for the issue before the event. In general,
please don't request more than three notices for any event.
Feel free to include your upcoming dates in a succinct 'Dates for
your Diary' format, up to half a page for the total message.
If you run regular events then from time to time you may wish to
briefly report on how it has been going along with details of the
next event in the series. A news item before the start of each series
would be entirely appropriate.
Dates will be included under "Upcoming Events" or "Dates for your
Diary" each week until the event date. Regular events will be
included under that heading until you advise otherwise.
Publication will generally be in the issue following receipt but
is not guaranteed. We will tell you if we decline to forward your
item perhaps because it is too long or not relevant to the list. If
you don't receive an acknowledgement please remind us - we may have
missed it in the flood of emails that we receive each day. The
editors reserve the right to edit for the sake of brevity, bearing in
mind that if we send out too much then our readers unsubscribe in
droves, but it is better all round if you do the editing before
sending the item for publication.
Your Privacy
You are sending your message including your contact details to a
large private list. To protect you from automated spammers we will
NOT publish your email address to public internet newsgroups like
canb.general, or the web. We may publish a summary of the event,
without contact details, to the web and to public internet
newsgroups. We will send the full item by direct email to anyone who
requests a copy, and to the people on the list. We cannot control any
forwarding of your message, and if (for example) you send the item
from work but want your home email address shown as the source,
please tell us that in your message (you might say "Please forward to
list, from X@home.org"). We don't keep any record of your
preferences, so if in doubt please spell it out for us, that is much
better than us sending our recollection of your currently preferred
email address out to 500 people.
In order to protect your privacy we do not supply addresses, but we
will forward messages to individual members if we have their
address.

Candidates' Statements
Canberra Dance News is available for announcements of interest to
the dance community. If you have an MFS candidate's statement or even
just some constructive ideas we are happy to forward up to half a
page (about 20 lines) to the list.
We have received a few requests to send out statements that are
longer than half a page. We regret that we are not offering this
service, and offer the following options for longer statements:
1) Request their uploading to the Monaro Folk Society web site and
send a short statement plus the link for those who want more details,
to this list.
2) Upload the statement to geocities.yahoo.com (free web hosting)
and send a short statement plus the link for those who want more
details, to this list.
3) Send a short statement to this list along with the offer to
send the full statement by email on request.
Please note that this list is not offering to host follow-up
debates on any ideas raised. That would be really opening up a
floodgate and is not the purpose of this "announcements" list.
